update

So far ...studies...everything... starting to accelerate right now.

Assessments kept popping up and group project assignments were given. So far I hv two group project. One is on Computer studies

For that, hv to come up with lots of S*** and it's not easy. Seriously I know how to spell DIE now, but it couldn't be worse than ms kok's assignment. So nevertheless I CAN DO IT!!

Another project is on RESTAURANT. We must assume that we are opening a new restaurant and we hv to come up with a model like what one would see in a show house. yea we hv to create those miniatures..tables, chairs, kitchens, wash room, lounge bar etc etc.... and since my SENIORs had set the benchmark... we hv to create double storey model and mayb...i mean mayb lightings. Well, this thing is quite interesting. nvr build one model b4.

well today, 18th may 2007, i went to the college 11.30am to study in the library..do some research and stuff b4 class starts at 2pm until 6pm

THEN opportunity came. Some seniors , the "chefs"were having practical classes in the kitchen, they hv to cook..i think 2 course meal for 4 persons. So usually they need 2 helpers called COMMIS. I volunteered.

Learnt alot from the "chef" that i helped. ESPECIALLY when I hv to face the same lecturer next time. HE IS VERY MUCH LIKE MISS KOK. except for the fact that he has a gf. Of coz... he's an award winning chef la. really many awards. After they finished everything, all products on the table.. he judged the food that they prepared. Seriously he's fantastic. By the time we finished it was ard 11.15pm. and the locker room is LOCKED!!! my bag...water... wallet is there.

However in my previous blog I mentioned that another lecturer of mine Mr Tay Boon is like ms kok rite? He is not. In fact he's the coolest of all and yeah..he's a bit hamsup. One example. U know how ppl carry the round tray? sometimes it's too heavy that u support it with ur chest because when u hold the tray, it's around the chest level. So he said to us NOT to do that coz it looks like TETEK(TT) service. (pardon me for the using that word.not my fault) So everytime when anyone of us did that due to the heaviness of the plates or whatsoever, he will say "eh dun do that tt service yah?"

lol.

gotta go now. zzzzzz tired la.

Interview

20th April 2007

Went for interview at Sodexho's office. Right beside Amcorp Mall in PJ. There were 4 interviewers. One French guy from Sodexho-it's still a French company. One French guy from Taylors- Director of Studies. Then there was this chinese guy, a manager from Taylors. Apparently he is the bro of the MD of Taylors. and one lady from taylors. She handled all this scholarship thing.

I had to prepare a powerpoint presentation for them-about 20 minutes.Ended up i presented the whole presentation in an hour. They just love to interrupt me with their questions haha. thats why an hour.

The Frenchmen.... argh... teruk... bombarded me with tough ... complicated question plus their French accent. Gosh. The Chinese guy.. he's nice. Helped me a lot ...when i dun understand the English that the other 2 used.

well, the interview.. quite successful. did so much preparation, research and etc. which is why..... I GOT THE SCHOLARSHIP!  Got informed that day itself and they gave me the contract.

But... like any other scholarships, many ...and i mean many T&C. ONE GREAT EXAMPLE. "I must not fail any subjects i take in every term/semester and even if i passed all, the average score must be above 60%"

that's that. now extra burden on my part. anyway, if i'm not mistaken, there would be a ceremony to give the scholarship in KL HILTON ( I'VE BEEN LONGING TO GO THERE) by minister of higher edu.... shy la...hehe

anyway, to all who has supported me throughout this whole thing JUTAAN TERIMA KASIH! goh and dai esp. AND DAD TOO. nvr could have done it without u.

scholarship

i think i didnt mention anything about the scholarship i applied for in my prev blogs.

ok..there was this scholarship named World Class Scholarship offered by Taylors college. it's not the ordinary normal scholarship where they provide one with the $$$. this one involves many big companies in the hospitality/biz/etc industry. they will provide the money and internship after graduation meaning job is guaranteed (think so)

so there were 2 coincidences. ONE= I saw this ad on the newspaper but somehow i forgotten. then one day which is 3 days b4 the closing date, i went online and surf thru the taylors website. only i saw the ad in the website then i remember! luckily it does not require snail mail application or else it would be too rush. so then i was required to write an essay. goh proof-read the essay for me. THANKS GOH!

about few days after the closing date, the taylors ppl called me. asking me whether i want to really apply for this scholarship. I WAS ECSTATIC! someone actually called me about the scholarship. she asked me to prepare for the interview siap wit certs and etc. then she say she will call back the next week. as i was too happy i didnt really pay attention to the details. so i called her again to confirm everything. then disappointed. "HV TO WAIT FOR THE ACADEMICS PPL TO SHORTLIST THEN WE WILL CALL U"

i tot they already shortlisted the candidates and will call again to confirm date for interview. malu nyer.. excited for nothing

so i waited

today! coincidence TWO= i was sleeping ... air conditioned room. 1000am (mom was here in kl two days) mom woke me up. i continue sleep. looking at my phone - 1000am only .... sleep summore " will wake up 1030am. then about 1100 am... (as i was terjaga once from my sleep i would be in half sleep half awake mode) i touch my phone which was stuck in between my bed and the floor and it was in the silent mode. i wun realise if any call came.  THEN I SAW THE PHONE RINGING 03-78772753... i knew it was the college call.

I WAS SHORTLISTED FOR AN INTERVIEW. gotta go to this SODEXHO company for that. the lady who called in asked me to dress very formally and if can with coat and she gave me the address and the website for me to do research on the company. this time i was really happy. it's true this time.

now, the happy feelings turned into nervous. nvr been to such a HUGE interview. really huge. gonna save my dad RM 75000 plus if i manage to get thru this interview. poor dad gotta use up his own EPF to finance my sis and I.

so again, Goh in a way u helped me... thnx. at least i got the chance!

thats all for the day!

deja-vu

today.met one of my lecturers. he's the mentor of my group (there are about 6-7 groups and each has a mentor to gudie them thru the 1st term.anything can find him/her)

very nice guy, very philosophical. he's also teaching me PASTRY!

then, he briefed us on the timetable..which has the lecturers' names. when it comes to MR. TAY BOON, my mentor said that he is a nice BUT strict guy. "If u do well in class-academic and attitude wise- he will be very nice but if u dun hv good attitude etc.. he can be very fierce"

SOUNDS FAMILIAR? i remember CIK NOR AISHAH who is now teaching in SMK Seri Ampang, my 1st form 6 school (she came from ACS IPOH) told me about miss kok. " cikgu..nervous la pegi ACS" i said

"nervous apa? miss kok? tak payah takut. dia macam BEGITU untuk kebaikan semua pelajarnya" she said

so today, i had a sense of deja-vu. what if mr tay boon turns out to be something like KA1?

haha.nevertheless, will be enjoying my studies here! still excited at the fact that i'm learning real cuisine techniques and pastry esp.

that's for today!

p/s: i was exempted from the english classes from both term.

taylors.

1st day. orientation week. started out very nice this morning. was excited to be there until I was given a copy of the orientation schedule.

right after the welcome address and some briefing, there was this English placement test. similar to MUET and worse. gosh, the listening part was the worst. we were supposed to fill in the blanks as we listen to the recording. the recording are played only once as opposed to muet twice (twice right?) summore no objective questions. did quite badly there. the speaker spoke too fast la.. atau I slacked? hehe

then came the comprehension part.. whole long complicated passage about ecotourism and some other passages. only few objective questions. many true/false/not given questions. the problem was..how to differentiate the false and not given.. a bit confused there!

last but not least writing. thank god. i could express myself freely. hopefully i can get band 5. with that band 5 I will be exempted from intensive english 1 in term 1 and intensive english 2 in term 2.

after that, went back home for lunch. had some crackers and ice lemon tea. still cant get use to the the pricing of the food here. a bit tak sanggup spend more than 5 for lunch.

then another bad news. not really bad but was hoping that i could be exempted from malaysian studies (LAN compulsory subject for private colleges) using my pengajian am results. but sadly the lecturer said no.

luckily i was exempted from the bahasa kebangsaan module tho.  bm spm got A2.

hmm. apart from that, had my uniform measurement measured today. (chef's tunic, pants which must be 60% or more cotton, vest, long sleeve shirt and a pair of boots from topsafe...non slippery wor plus beret and apron)

sigh, that uniforms are for practical training. so other times eg class, lectures, tutorial etc ..guess what? t shirt and jeans?

nope! all hospitality and tourism students are required to dress smartly at all times. Long sleeves, slacks and ties. Plus coat if i'm not mistaken.

i will surely miss my t shirt and jeans days.

overall the college here is great. facilities are very good and the staff here are extremely friendly. u can see students and staffs mingle ard very often. student council kot?

well, said too much liao. haha. just to keep my blog here alive.
